Pakistan’s Street Child Football Team Wins Silver Medal

Pakistan’s team went unbeaten in the tournament. They beat Brazil in the Semi-Final to reach final where they lost to the host team Qatar in a penalty shootout (4-3).

Street child football world cup, under the banner of non-profit organization in UK named Street Child United has been taking place since 2010. The last three editions of the event took place in South Africa (2010), Brazil (2014) and Russia (2018).This year, the event took place in Qatar from October 7 to 15. The tournament included 26 teams from across the world.

In this year’s edition of 2022, Egypt won the final of the Street Child Football World Cup 2022 in Doha on Saturday, as Pakistan finished in the second place with an impressive performance in the tournament. Pakistan’s team went unbeaten throughout the tournament winning seven matches and only tying their match against Burundi.

Pakistan’s forward Tufail Shinwari played with the utmost brilliance in this tournament scoring 13 goals. He bedazzled the audience with two back-to-back hat-tricks against Bosnia and Qatar. He said he was “proud” to be the player of the tournament. “We are sad that we could not get the title but at the same time we are coming back [to Pakistan] with an objective [to play football] in our life,” he continued.

This 11 day event contained 28 teams from 24 countries. Neighboring country India went out the tournament after the group stages.  The players were chosen out of 90 members of a trial process that was carried out for a year by Muslim Hands, a charity organization.

The family members of the players were also given stipends for encouragement as some of them were supporting their families.
