Maaz Sadaqat Breaks T20I Records With 96-Run Blitz

Pakistan’s Maaz Sadaqat smashed 96 off just 51 deliveries against Sri Lanka in the second T20I at Rawalpindi, helping his side post 215 for three and win by 82 runs. His innings helped break T20I records that had stood for years, and it happened only in his second international appearance.

The left-hander fell on the very last ball of Pakistan’s innings, agonisingly four runs short of a maiden international century. Still, seven sixes, six fours, and a historic team total made this one of the more remarkable individual performances in recent Pakistan T20I history. Gulf News covered the full story as it unfolded.

What Actually Happened With Maaz Sadaqat

Pakistan were batting first at Rawalpindi and Maaz came out swinging from the very beginning. The youngster attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers with confidence that felt far beyond a second T20I appearance, and captain Sahibzada Farhan gave him brilliant company, scoring 73 off 44 balls from the other end.

Together they pushed Pakistan to a total that the record books had never seen from this country on home turf. When Maaz eventually fell on the final delivery, Pakistan finished on 215 for three, a number that surpassed their previous home record of 208 for three against the West Indies set in Karachi in 2021.

It was also Pakistan’s second highest T20I total overall, sitting only behind their 232 for six against England in Nottingham in 2021. Sri Lanka never really threatened the target and finished on 133 for seven, losing by 82 runs. Muhammad Imran was the standout with the ball, returning figures of three for 11 from his four overs.

Why It Matters

Two matches into his international career and Maaz Sadaqat has already scored a half-century on debut and a near-century in the second game, while equalling a national sixes record. That is not a coincidence, that is a statement.

The series win also means Pakistan have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. It is also worth remembering that stories like this remind us just how quickly young Pakistani talent can announce itself on the international stage. About T20I

The T20 International format is the shortest and most explosive form of official international cricket, with each side facing 20 overs. Pakistan have been one of the most exciting teams in this format over the years, and their all-time highest total of 232 for six against England in Nottingham in 2021 shows just how dangerous they can be with the bat. Pakistan’s record-breaking performances have a habit of rewriting what we thought was possible, whether on the cricket field or elsewhere in the country.
