Miyawaki Forests Lahore- Asia’s Largest Urban Forest

Urban greening has been proven to lessen the impact of climate change. Pakistan’s government, under the Clean and Green Pakistan Initiative, is emphasizing tree plantation to combat environmental challenges.

The Miyawaki urban forests, initiated under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project, are being developed on over 100 kanals and will feature around 165,000 plants. These forests are said to grow 10 times faster than an average forest. This is because these urban forests are being created using the Miyawaki technique.

What is the Miyawaki method?

Urban forests created through the Miyawaki method are free from chemicals and fertilizers. They grow about 1 meter on average each year. The habitat created through this method grows much denser and complex over time; attracting biodiversity.

“Accompanying 15 additional places in Lahore City such urban forests will be developed to cultivate a total of 292,500 plants in a statement.” Usman Buzdar added that there will be 58000 trees planted in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park over an area of 50 channels.

Urban greening has been proven to lessen the impact of climate change. Pakistan’s government, under the Clean and Green Pakistan Initiative, is emphasizing tree plantation to combat environmental challenges. Developing greenery not only increases the quality of the urban environment but also promotes sustainable lifestyles by impacting the health and well-being of the residents.

Lahore is the second-largest city in Pakistan with deteriorating air quality. Increased utilization of poor-quality fuels for transportation, power generation, and industrial purposes, coupled with deforestation and extensive infrastructure development has contributed to diverse environmental pressure. However, with the development of urban Miyawaki forests, such serious environmental challenges can be overcome.

Clean and Green Pakistan

Miyawaki forests not only help lessen the environmental challenges but also beautify the land and improve air quality. Increasing greenery decreases noise levels and regulates temperature while protecting the soil against corrosion and flooding. Undoubtedly, the development of urban Miyawaki forests, under the 10 billion tree tsunami, is a great initiative to preserve the environment for future generations and improve health standards in the country.
