Timeless Load Shedding In Pakistan

Load shedding- the previous pride of Pakistan- is back! Until now, it was very clear that Khan Sahab had kept this monstrosity under control. It was pretty much a caged beast until now, and it feared Imran Khan. However, now that our premier is busy in an entirely different matter (no-confidence motion), the beast has been let out again.

Pakistanis are bound to remember all those instances when we woke up and prayed that power supply was still there. We did things rather punctually since load shedding has a way of turning even the shrewd procrastinators into time management geniuses. The load shedding became quite troublesome a few years back.

The real culprit behind the electricity power failure here is the shortage of furnace oil. Following that shortage, the electricity shortfall has also reached 5000 MW. Due to the scenario, unscheduled load shedding has begun all across Pakistan. The problem has occurred because a few of the power plants didn’t ensure stocks of fuel as backup due to pending charges from the government that have not been cleared.

Clearly, when it comes to making excuses and blame it on the government, our departments are often the masters. Due to the payments not being received from the government, the plants had the perfect excuse not to buy the spare fuel.

It is worthy of mention that Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has recently dropped a bomb by saying that we need to brace ourselves for the 8-hour load shedding. But those who live in Pakistan know that it won’t be much of a bomb. 8-hour load shedding was already taking place before, and they have simply announced the reason for it. Now, the message is clear. Get ready for massive blackouts during Ramadan.

Chances are that if you were living in Islamabad areas, you wouldn’t know the power supply shortage in several backward areas of ISB and Rawalpindi. The maintenance work had been going on there since September 2021. Due to the current position of power supply, it is near impossible to expect a smooth Ramadan without watching the lights go kaboom!
