Pakistan’s cricket team is one of the most unpredictable teams in the world. One minute they are on the top of the game and the other minute they are giving you a heart attack. From highs to lows in every match, they can achieve the impossible. In the 2nd ODI, where they won by 6 wickets against the no. 1 Australian team, made a record for successfully chasing such a great total. And how can we forget our skipper Babar Azam, who ruled the match entirely by scoring a century?

After losing the first ODI against Australia, we thought it was a bad omen. But then we also trust our green shirts who have the immense capacity to take away the match from the opponents even in the last moments.

Babar Azam was excited after the win, and appreciated his team, “The credit goes to the whole team, who put in a phenomenal effort. We gave a few too many runs away, but the way Fakhar and Imam started gave us the momentum back. Then Imam and I continued the momentum. Wickets in hand always give you and the incoming batter confidence. There are ups and downs, but we never stop believing.”

Australia made tons of runs. They set a target of 349 for the green shirts. The Australian team, as always, had shown absolutely wonderful performance out in the field. Their star performers were:

  • Ben McDermott- 104 runs
  • Travis Head-89 runs
  • Marnus Labuschagne-59 runs
  • Marcus Stoinis-49

McDermott’s century couldn’t save Australia from losing. Shaheen Afridi took  4 wickets for 63 runs, not letting the Australian batters comfortably set on the crease. Muhammad Wasim supported him by taking 2 wickets along with Khushdil Shah and Zahid Mahmood, who took 1 wicket each.

Pakistan won by 6 wickets. Babar’s Hundred and Imam-ul-Haq’s partnership (who has nine ODI hundreds in just 48 innings) helped Pakistan to reach a victory point. The Pakistani team has also found a finisher as Khushdil Shah, who finished the match in a beautiful manner.

Pakistani star performers were:

  • Babar Azam-114
  • Imam ul Haq-104
  • Fakhar Zaman-67

The Australian bowling attack looked weak in front of Babar Azam and Imam-ul-Haq, where they could not restrict Pakistan’s batter from scoring runs. Adam Zampa took 2 wickets along with Nathan Ellis and Marcus Stoinis, taking 1 wicket each.

The national team also broke a 16-match losing streak against Australia.

Records

Babar Azam

Babar Azam’s 15th ODI century became the fastest in reaching the figure in the format (83 innings). He also surpassed South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who had reached the feat in 86 innings.

The top-5 fastest players to reach 15 ODI centuries are:

Babar Azam – 83 innings

Hashim Amla – 86 innings

Virat Kohli – 106 innings

David Warner – 108 innings

Shikhar Dhawan – 108 innings

The cricketers have praised him all over, which is a proud moment for him. As Aaron Finch said, “I mean if you have Babar Azam in the team, it’s not a surprise that we lost so easily even after scoring over 320+ runs. He is the best ODI player in the world and today he showed why.”
