The government’s vision of going digital is seeing the light of the day. We see digitization in different fields which is a piece of great news. It will help us connect to the entire country with just one click passing all the traditional forms of communication. NADRA has been working on the digitization of NIC connecting it with different departments and fields making the life of a common man easy and accessible. They have converted the ID into a digital wallet which is amazing. Ab humein jaib men cash rakhnay ki bilkul bhe zaroorat nahe hai.

NADRA has been working on the digitization of ID cards for quite some time. Online renewal for citizens at home and abroad can be facilitated without having to wait in queues. They have been keen on linking the cards with different fields so that a common man is able to access things with just one click.

Pak Identity App launched by NADRA

They have launched an app called ‘ Pak identity’ which would enable users to do biometric identification, facial recognition, and scanning documents with their smartphone. Isn’t this interesting? Just sit at home, and you can register yourself without even visiting the offices now. It is also a big relief for working people who can’t spare time from their busy schedules and just have Sundays off. This app is available for both android and apple phones.

If NADRA is successful, this will help them to introduce a new financial system that is both accessible and convenient. They should also be aware of the problems like internet accessibility, ineffective system setups, and instances of cyberattacks and be able to devise a strategy to counter them as well. They will need advanced technology and manpower to run it smoothly.

Tariq Malik who is the NADRA chief explained about the app, “Translating this vision into reality, we have launched the ‘Pak Identity’ mobile app as a key building block of digital ID to facilitate applicants of national identity cards through an online portal. The app helps capture biometric fingerprints, facial recognition, and scan documents needed for processing a person’s ID card using smartphones, without visiting a Nadra office or embassy.” According to him, Pakistan has become the first country with the facility of contactless biometric verification using smartphones. This has helped almost 75,000 overseas Pakistanis on a trial basis who usually had to wait for a long time. They are now ready to launch the digital wallet officially.

He further elaborated, “This innovation will revolutionise the national ID eco-system in Pakistan by ensuring public convenience, and is a leap forward putting an end to the conventional physical ID. The digital dividends of such technology innovation will yield positive results in contactless banking, financial inclusion, ease of doing business, and e-governance initiatives by offering remote identification and e-KYC (electronic know your customer).”

This is a revolutionary move that will not only help Pakistan nationally but also internationally with time. We are hopeful that the steps taken will allow the people better accessibility and convenience at their doors. It is important to take steps no matter how small they may be, the important thing is that we should keep on progressing rather than sitting idle.
