Islamophobia is one of the most significant issues around the world right now. People nowadays are on two sides. Those who promote Islamophobia and those who understand that Islam promotes peace and prosperity especially after noting that by 2070 Islam would be the biggest religion in the world.
This week on Thursday, at an international conference, the President of Russia – Vladimir Putin, said that ”insulting Holy Prophet (SAWW) does not count as the expression of artistic Freedom but is a violation of religious freedom.” This statement by Mr. President caused a lot of uproars.
But what exactly is Islamophobia
Islamophobia is a term, which means people who have a prejudice against the followers of Islam, and are scared of the religion and its followers. In the last decade, this term has prevailed, and people from all corners of the world are identified as Islamophobists.
However, where it is bad, there is also good. There are people out there who fear, harm, and hurt Muslims – rob them of their rights, and there are those who understand that Islam is a religion of Peace, Love, and Brotherhood. And there are examples to be found of both these kinds of people.
In France, Muslim women have often wanted to cover their heads with Hijab but could not because of Hijab bans. And this is just one of many examples that we have. It has now become a stereotype that a man with a beard wearing Shalwar-Kameez, the traditional dress – would either be a terrorist or a religious fanatic out to forcefully convert everyone to Islam. In another example, people living in the West do not get holidays on Eid.
And yet still, there are people out there who understand that Islam is a religion of peace and harmony. These people can be found between us, across all borders. They help and protect our Muslim brothers in times of need.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has been working to eradicate Islamophobia from the hearts and minds of people. On all international platforms, Imran Khan sahib talks about what Islam means. And it seems that his years of hard work are starting to make progress. The recent statement by President Vladimir Putin was refreshing.
We hope that people worldwide realize that no religion should ever be disrespected in any way. To do so hurts the sentiment of its followers. And in Islam and all other religions out there, it is stated that a person should not consciously harm or hurt another person by their words or actions.
It is time we start to change ourselves. It is only then that we will begin to change the world.
