Nooh Butt wins Silver Medal in Tashkent Weightlifting Championship 2021

Pakistani weightlifter finished second in the 109+ weight category, making the nation immensely proud.

Nooh Dastgir Butt creates history by winning the silver medal at the Tashkent Weightlifting Championship 2021 held on 17th December. Nooh Butt lifted a total weight of 390kg, which included 165kg in snatch and 225kg in clean and jerk. Pakistani weightlifter finished second in the 109+ weight category, making the nation immensely proud.

Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt hails from the city of wrestlers, Gujranwala. He has previously won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games Junior Championship held in India in 2015 and in Malaysia in 2016. He also created a junior Commonwealth record by lifting a total of 395kg. However, Nooh could not qualify as a contender for the Tokyo Olympics due to fitness issues.

This is the second medal for Pakistan in the Tashkent Weightlifting Championship. Earlier, Talha Talib had bagged a bronze medal by lifting 67kg in snatch. A senior official of Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) Amjad Amin Butt said that the Commonwealth Rankings will also be prepared on the basis of the global event results and it will be seen how many of their weightlifters would qualify for the next year’s Commonwealth Games which will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8, 2022.

Nooh Butt has high hopes for Pakistan saying “I am hopeful that all of our four weightlifters who featured in the Tashkent global event will be able to earn the Commonwealth Games ticket.”

Pakistani sportspersons are making their mark in the international arenas and the nation is nothing but proud. We hope to see more of such young talent come forward in each sport.
