Season 14 of Coke Studio is one of the best seasons we have had in a very long time. It could either be the magical direction of cor the passion with which all of these super talented artists are performing. Whatever it may be, we are just super happy to be getting these little treats from Coke Studio every week, and sometimes more than once a week with these amazing songs – like Mehram, which was released last night!
Dear God, what a beautiful song, with such heartfelt lyrics, super mesmerizing music video, and the talented artists. Both the singers, Asfar Hussain and Arooj Aftab, have given us a beautiful song. Arooj Aftab is a Brooklyn Based Pakistani singer with a melodious voice. Recently, she was in the news for scoring a few awards and many nominations, one of them being a Grammy.
Asfar Hussain, much like her co-singer, is exceptionally talented. Hailing from e is also a vocalist for one of Pakistan’s most acclaimed bands – Bayaan. He also earned his Bachelor’s degree in Musicology from NCA Lahore.
But talking about Mehram, a song we will listen to when we are sad or are going through a breakup. This song is a tribute to all those who have lost their loved ones yet still continue to stand tall and go on about their days.
Interestingly, there are two sides to this song. The debate on who gets sadder – the guys or the girls when they breakup has been going on for many years now; and it is senseless to debate on this topic because at the end of the day anyone and everyone who loses their loved one is sad. And as such, it was with this mindset that this video was shot and the is song written.
Arooj Aftab narrates the verses and gives out the feeling of what a girl goes through when she loses the one that she loves, whereas Asfar narrates his part with the same intensity.
The irony in all of it is still one simple fact. Sath hou kay sath na hou. Samney ho kay bhi samney na hou. Hum chahien tou sab mushkilaat sey larr saktay hain bus pata nahen dil kyun harr jata hai. Bus yeahi is dil ka masla hai warna na hota aaj koi bhi dil tanha aur udaass. Magar bus yeah dil mantaa hi nahen hai.
And on this note, we thank the entire team of Coke Studio who have worked tirelessly for months to give us such amazing songs; and we look forward to all the remaining songs of this season!
