Japan’s Development Assistance To Pakistan – A long-time Friend’s Big Time Aid

Pakistan and Japan because of their cordial relations share the title of ‘dereenah dost’ which means a long-time friend. Japan has long been known as the development partner of Pakistan.

Pakistan and Japan’s relationship in business and economic fields have deepened over the last 70 years. Pak – Japan economic ties are extended to the areas of the cotton trade, steel, food manufacturing, and automobile energy. Moreover, over these years Japan has also worked closely with the Pakistani helping them advance in various fields. Likewise, Pakistanis have also helped Japan in different business-related areas. Pakistan and Japan because of their cordial relations share the title of ‘dereenah dost’ which means a long-time friend. Japan has long been known as the development partner of Pakistan. Recently, Japan decided to provide development aid to Pakistan which is seen as a long-time friend’s big-time aid.

The Japanese government has decided to provide an aid of Rs. 33 million to Pakistan. This aid is going to be divided among the three NGOs of Pakistan. It is an NGO development aid. The contracting parties met at the residence of the Ambassador to sign the contract. The agreement was signed between the heads of the three organizations and the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan H.E. WADA Mitsuhiro. The organizations selected for this development aid are Dir Area Development Organization (DADO), Rehman Foundation, and True Worth Foundation.

Dir Area Development Organization (DADO)

Dir Area Development Organization (DADO) was established in June 1998. It is a non-profitable, sustainable development NGO. For the past 14 years, it has been working in District Dir Lower and Dir upper intending to uplift the socio-economic status of the minorities. It also aims at improving the living, health, and education standards of the KPK’s rural areas.

DADO is going to receive Rs 10.7 million from Japan’s development aid. With this aid, DADO will build a hydropower station to supply environmentally friendly, low cost and reliable electricity to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, it will also provide the facility of ceiling fans in the summer season and heating equipment in the winter season. Moreover, children will be provided with the facility to learn in better conditions.

Rehman Foundation

Rehman Foundation is working for the past 16 years to help Rehman Foundation is running many free dialyses centers in many cities of Pakistan. The organization aims to provide free health assistance to poor and needy people.

An amount of Rs 11.5 million will be given to Rehman Foundation. Eight dialysis machines will be installed in the Islamabad Dialysis Center which is operated by the Rehman Foundation. This will help the dialysis patients to get good treatment at less cost.

True Worth Foundation

True Worth Foundation was established in 2003 with a vision of creating “a strong, vibrant and coordinated empowered society in Pakistan and to sustainably improve their quality of life and living standards.” The NGO is working day and night to help the unprivileged people of society.

The NGO will get Rs 10.8 million to provide the Al-Wadood Hospital with a generator, computed radiography, and an ambulance. This will facilitate the poor people with quality medical assistance which will be affordable for all. This will also improve the emergency outreach capacity of the hospital.

The representatives appreciated and thanked the Japanese government for the development aid. This aid will prove beneficial for the social uplift of people.
