Dr Fouzia Siddique Meets Dr Afia Siddique After Two Decades

The sisters could only see each other through a glass window during the intensely private encounter, which was held under tight security.

Dr Fouzia Siddique and Dr. Aafia Siddiqui eventually met in person at an unnamed American jail, in a reconciliation that endured two decades and transcended prison walls.

Clive Stafford Smith, a human rights attorney who recently assisted in the release of two Pakistanis from Guantanamo Bay, accompanied Fouzia . Smith already had a prison encounter with Dr. Siddiqui.

The sisters could only see each other through a glass window during the intensely private encounter, which was held under tight security.

Senator Mushtaq described the meeting, which took place after a long interval of 20 years and lasted more than two hours.

However, during the meeting, Dr Fouzia Siddique was not allowed to touch her sister or show her pictures of Dr Afia’s children.

The sisters were kept in a room dividing them by a substantial glass wall. Dr. Afia was shown by Dr. Fawzia as donning a white scarf and a beige jail outfit.

Dr. Fouzia went on to express her worries about D Afia’s condition, noting that it took her sister almost an hour to describe the difficulties she had been facing every day. Unaware that their mother had died over a year earlier, Afia stated her desire to meet her mother and children.

Unsettlingly, Fouzia revealed that Dr. Afia had suffered hearing loss due to a scar on her skull and had lost her front teeth as a result of an alleged assassination attempt within the prison.

Currently, Dr Afia is serving her sentence at the Federal Medical Centre in Carswell, Texas. She will be eligible for parole in 2033.
