The fifth wave of Covid has been difficult for Pakistan as it has sailed smoothly through the previous ones. The government has put its best to make sure that the citizens are protected along with the NCOC and has been on guard since the pandemic hit. The positivity rate had gone above 10% the highest as compared to the previous ones resulting in the most deaths so far. The good news so far is that it has lowered to 7% which is a good sign.

The Pakistani government has dealt very efficiently with the pandemic by providing the vaccines in time that too free of cost. They have also been able to move the state machinery to provide the vaccines door to door, which is a commendable job. Pakistan has also made a record of having 38% of the population vaccinated. The eligible population that is vaccinated is 56% which is remarkable. The total vaccines administered so far are 185,916,838.

According to the NCOC, 3,338 new cases were reported. 44,779 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases is 89,192.

NCOC chief Asad Umar said that the last three days have brought good news as the cases have started declining. “Target is to reach all citizens to allow us to finally end all COVID-19 related restrictions. The highest daily vaccination records were set three days in a row. It has been noticed during the current fifth wave of COVID-19 that the people in the areas with high vaccination rates have minor symptoms of the disease.” He also said that over 35 million COVID vaccines have been administered through the door-to-door vaccination campaign launched by the government.  In the first phase of the door-to-door campaign, 55,000 teams will vaccinate the people. So far, 80 million people have been fully vaccinated, with 10 million receiving a single dose. 2.6 million have received booster shots.

The government has been praised by international organizations like WHO for taking precautions in time to contain the disease. The timely restrictions and facilities helped to protect the citizens as the neighboring countries struggled with both the deaths and facilities.

We hope, wish, and pray that the pandemic ends soon and the world returns to normal but till then STAY SAFE AND STAY INDOORS.
