First case of omicron in Pakistan

After the dissolution of NCOC, we took this as a sign that the government got the pandemic under control. We all breathe a sigh of relief but who would have thought that this would be short-lived. The moment we threw our masks away and started attending large public gatherings at that very moment it seems like doom once again knocked at our door. Yes, unfortunately, Pakistan has recently witnessed its first case of omicron subvariant.

NCOC Closes As Pandemic Ends

The NIH Announcement

On Monday, the National Institutes of Health reported the first case of the omicron subvariant BA.2.12.1. This variant is known to be highly infectious and dangerous. The subvariant was detected through genome sequencing. Not only this, but the case has also exacerbated the covid cases. Previously, not many corona cases were reported but it seems like the tally has seen an increase overnight.

On March 31, NCOC the nerve center of pandemic management was closed down. As the government didn’t take the lingering omicron threat into account. However, there is still time to control the situation until it gets out of hand. We are already aware of what is happening in China, if we don’t want to share the same fate then it is better to strictly abide by the SOPs placed to curb the pandemic.

Although 64 new covid cases have been reported, the positivity ratio still remains at 0.49%. Moreover, no deaths have been reported so far.

The NIH said in a tweet “We strongly recommend getting vaccinated and all those due for boosters must get the shots immediately.” This is the only way to keep yourself protected against this lethal infectious disease. Buy new masks, and sanitizers, and avoid human contact as much as possible. As Eid is over, don’t host or be a part of public gatherings.

We have already once defeated the pandemic and we can do it once more, just a bit of seriousness toward the situation will do. Stay Safe! Stay Healthy!
