Twitter's Blue Tick to be removed

Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, stated on Tuesday that April 20 would be the “final date” for the elimination of Twitter’s Blue Tick.

Using the microblogging platform that the CEO of Tesla took over at the end of the previous year, Musk revealed what will happen to the blue checkmarks, which have always been seen as rewards that must be obtained.

On April 20th, he tweeted that “the final deadline for eliminating legacy blue checks is here.”

Many on Twitter instantly responded to Musk’s message, expressing their shock and disapproval of removing Twitter’s Blue Tick and suggesting that the CEO was acting in this manner in order to increase the company’s profits.

Twitter made the announcement a month ago that it will begin removing theTwitter’s Blue Tick from tweets beginning on April 1.

On the same day that Twitter revealed that a Twitter Blue membership will be accessible internationally for $7 (roughly Rs2,250), the network also stated that it has made the choice to roll back the coveted checkmarks.

Prior to Elon’s takeover of the microblogging network, checkmarks were used to authenticate accounts of people and organisations as active legitimate and “notable” accounts of interest. These verifications were done using the platform.

The fact that the certified checkmarks did not require customers to pay for them was perhaps the most crucial aspect of this arrangement.

Midway through the month of December, Twitter made an announcement that they will be launching a new subscription model called Twitter Blue. This model would provide users with “access to subscriber-only features such as Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, and reader mode.”

Twitter users were notified that they could “buy” a blue check via the subscription model for a price of $8 per month (the cost of signing up for iOS and Android will be $11 per month owing to the charges incurred by the app stores). Twitter users were informed at the time that additional checkmark colours and badges will be available for purchase in order to distinguish between accounts belonging to businesses and those belonging to governments.
