The Pakistani entertainment industry is rising with different concepts and ideas being produced on a bigger scale than ever. What is remarkable is that all new productions are different and free from the typical binds of stereotype, which has ruled at the heart of our entertainment industry for many years in cinemas and on televisions. In comes our very own – animated superhero series by Samaaj called Super Sohni.
Pakistan has no shortage of talent and creativity, and now people are taking it upon themselves to get their ideas out on different platforms. Samaaj is a non-profit organization that aims to tackle sexual abuse through animated cartoons in their web series called the ‘Super Sohni.’
Samaaj wants to help the women of Pakistan and bring awareness to the issues that women in the country face. At the same time, the organization does not want to discredit the country or portray a bad image. They clearly state that there are good people and bad people worldwide. What matters is that we learn to differentiate between the two and protect our children.
Super Sohni is a concept which aims to explain to children the different ways from which they can keep themselves safe. The creators issued a statement on their social media demonstrating that they want to use the cartoon as a means to get their message across. They believe that children are hugely influenced by cartoons and learn a lot from them.
Through that, they can learn about the ‘bad’ and ‘inappropriate’ touch and understand that all abusers and pedophiles are not strangers and can at times be family members or somebody they are familiar with. They want to address the fact that discussing such topics is taboo in our societies, and finding a way to use a medium through which people will listen to what is essential is tricky.
But who is Sohni?
Sohni is a superhero woman with wings. She fights abusers of all shapes and forms in any way that she can. She also has a thread that she uses to fight criminals. In another view, Sohni portrays our society in many ways.
The series will have 10 episodes, with each episode being released every week, and we can’t wait to sit down and watch it!
