Humans are funny beings. We have Earth – our motherland, but since the time we have occupied it to this date; the way in which we have used the resources is beyond unexplainable. We have been like those spoilt children who did not take care of the things that we had and now are suffering the consequences of it. Our natural resources are depleting at a fast pace, and it is for this reason that we are now looking if life on other planets is possible or not. While, researching this – NASA scientists have found evidence that life of Mars might have existed many years ago.
There are a lot on movies on Mars – and if we take what Matt Damon says to be true – then it surely means that life on Mars is possible. The man grew Potatoes there on the red clay. And while, there are things only Matt can do, we are hopeful as well that we might be able to survive, after all on the said planet.
Maybe it was him who brought back particles for us to test or maybe it was some other scientist – because we only know of Matt having been to Mars. Whoever may have gone to Mars – they got us some samples and while researching those samples we found some pretty great evidence that leads us to think – people have lived before on Mars as well.
On a side note – we already have proof. Duh; Matt Damon. Talking scientifically, a statement released by NASA says ‘The space agency’s curiosity rover made the surprising discovery while investigating clay-rich sedimentary rocks around its landing site in Gale Crater, a former lake that was made when an asteroid struck the Red Planet roughly 3.6 billion years ago.’
Clay has great significance here because it is the reason through which we are able to deduce the fact that life on Mars is possible. Clay is created when rocks wither away after contact with water – a key ingredient for life. It is also very essential for storing microbial fossils.
The process of chemical transformation in sediments is called diagenesis, and it could have created new life beneath Mars even as it erased some of the evidence of the old life on its surface, according to the researchers. So even though old records of life may have been erased in the brine patches, the chemical conditions brought about by the salty water may have enabled more life to spring up in its place, the scientists said.
“These are excellent places to look for evidence of ancient life and gauge habitability,” study co-author John Grotzinger, a geology professor at the California Institute of Technology, said in the statement. “Even though diagenesis may erase the signs of life in the original lake, it creates the chemical gradients necessary to support subsurface life, so we are really excited to have discovered this.”
The hope is there, and all the evidence suggests to the fact that life on Mars is a possibility. Since, all of us, human beings can’t do much about it – we can only hope for the fact that the billionaires get into some kind of a competition and send us on their expenses to test this theory.
