The ongoing Ukraine-Russian conflict and its repercussions could be witnessed in almost all countries. If not directly, people are still facing some sort of mental uneasiness because of the fear of war and its following effects. Nevertheless, this conflict is turning into a big problem for Russian businessmen because of the sanctions imposed on Russia. This led Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire, and owner of Chelsea, to put up the club on sale. His decision caught the interest of many around the world and among them is the infamous owner of Peshawar Zalmi. Jee han! Javed Afridi nay kia Chelsea khareednay ka faisla lekin kiya ho payien gay Afridi Sahab kamyaab?
Roman Abramovich’s Decision
Abramovich is a politician, businessman, billionaire, and the owner of Chelsea F.C. He is in news because of his recent decision to sell the football club. Chelsea is a football club in England. It is known as one of the most popular football clubs. It has won over 30 competitive honors, with nine international trophies and six League titles, and has the honor of being five-time English Premier League champions.
Abramovich’s commitment and sincerity to Chelsea is something you can never question. To give the ownership of Chelsea to someone else has also not been easy for him but with the ongoing crises, there is nothing much he can do. Abramovich said “As I have stated before, I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. In the current situation, I have therefore decided to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners.
He further added that “Moreover, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine. This includes providing critical funds towards the urgent and immediate needs of victims, as well as supporting the long-term work of recovery.”
The problem here is that we can’t decide whether it’s sad or good news. Because Javed Afridi’s element to all this event makes it good news as well.
Javed Afridi’s Plans
The event has caught the attention of many potential buyers and one of them is Javed Afridi. Javed Afridi is already the founder of MG Motors Pakistan, PSL team Peshawar Zalmi and is the CEO of Haier Pakistan. Now he has set eyes on being the owner of Chelsea. But the competition is tough given that Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and Saudi billionaire Prince Al Waleed are also keen on buying the football club.
However, our bets are on Javed Afridi though it seems difficult. We still hope that Javed Afridi gets his hands on the football club. Just imagine how this will open new avenues in the world of football for Pakistan.
