Wrestling was celebrated once, but now it’s a lost game. Some players have kept the spirits still alive despite restrains. One of them is Inam Butt who has won two gold medals in Beach Wrestling World Series which was held in Italy and Greece last year. The Punjab government has rewarded him with Rs. 1 million as a token of appreciation. Waah, Bhai Waah!Inam Butt humein ap par fakhar hai!
Inam Butt hails from Gujranwala. He contested in the 90 kgs category where he had beaten his Ukrainian opponent by 3-0 in Greece last year claiming the gold medal. In Italy, he had beaten his Slovenian opponent by 3-0 as well and claimed a gold medal.
He had appreciated the support of the authorities, especially the Punjab Sports Board and the Pakistan Olympic Association. He said that ‘when all the sports institutions work together, then the athletes can win medals for the country.’
“I dedicate this medal to Pakistan sports institutions. Most of the credit for this feat goes to Pakistan Wrestling Federation. Luckily, today our new body has been elected and today I have earned the World Champion title for Pakistan. Besides this, I want to say huge thanks to Pakistan Sports Board, [IPC Minister] Fehmida Mirza, and DG Asif Zaman. They have helped me a lot, we weren’t getting visas. Because of their efforts, I got the visa and played here.”
Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, awarded him a cheque for Rs 1 million at a ceremony held at National Hockey Stadium. Rai Taimoor appreciated the ace wrestler saying that he has made Pakistan proud by winning two consecutive gold. He said, “Inam is a great son of the country. We are proud of Inam Butt. Inam is our national hero, and it’s our prime obligation to honour and encourage sports stars like him.” Rai Taimoor said that young talent should be determined and taken inspiration by athletes like Inam.
We have a lot of talented people around us. The only thing is to support them. To the young Talent, Do not lose determination.
