University of Engineering Technology (UET), Peshawar has done something phenomenal last week – and it is giving a father-daughter duo Ph.D. degree on the same day. Father, Dr. Masood Khan, obtained a Ph.D. degree in Mechatronics while his daughter, Dr. Nadia Masood, achieved a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. This is something to be proud of and be happy about because the idea that both father and daughter were able to obtain a doctorate degree together is something unheard of.
The reason why Dr. Masood Khan was unable to complete his Ph.D. degree earlier because of household responsibilities, and other financial issues. But as things got somewhat stable – he was able to complete his degree, which is a source of inspiration for all those who are thinking of completing their education after years of break. The resilience and dedication that he has shown for his dream is something that we must all learn from.
In an interview, Dr. Nadia Masood said that she was very happy to have her father stand by her side on this day, and it made her very happy to obtain her degree with her father. Furthermore, she added that her family supported her in every way. It was not very easy for her to complete her degree because she was already working for National Standard Artificial Intelligence at the University.
To see such people in Pakistan – people as dedicated as they are and as resilient as they make us happy and inspire us to do more and more. It motivates us to not give up on our dreams and even if, at times, things are tough – we should still try to make sure that we do not give up and try again and again.
In the words of Dr. Masood Khan, “As soon as I had the time, I fulfilled my dream,” he added.
By doing this – he has taught us that one can do anything if he has the courage and will to do it. Things get tough at times but then again, it is the universe’s way of telling us that it is not the time right now. Hence, we must trust the process and do what we can in that time.
This father and daughter duo is a pride of Pakistan, and we hope other people can learn from their journey and try to follow in their footsteps of not giving up on their dreams, and doing everything they wished for – whenever they can.
