Sania Mirza is a professional tennis player from India and the wife of Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. She made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a singles championship in the Women’s Tennis Association.
The 36-year-old athlete posted a carousel of photographs resembling posters to Instagram today along with an emotional reflection on her accomplishments as a professional tennis player over the course of her 20-year career. She continued by thanking her loved ones and supporters for their unwavering support throughout her career and announcing that she was about to embark on a new chapter of her life and spend more time with her son.
Sania Mirza declared that her final match would be at the Dubai Tennis Championships, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 event in Dubai in February 2023. Prior to that, she would compete in women’s doubles at the Australian Open from January 16 to January 29 2023 with Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan, where she had begun her Grand Slam career back in 2005.
She had intended to leave at the end of 2022. An elbow ailment forced her prevented her from competing in the US Open.
