Merriam-Webster acquires Wordle clone Quordle

Quordle gained a lot of popularity after giving tough competition to Wordle. It is a five-letter word guessing game similar to Wordle, except each guess applies letters to four words at the same time Merriam Webster now has acquired a popular Wordle clone.

It is completely a new word game that works on the same principle as the Wordle game, but with a twist.

Wordle got famous right from its inception. a simple idea that Wardle created the game for himself and his partner to play, eventually making it public in October 2021. It was later owned and published by the New York Times Company in 2022.

Quordle worked on a similar idea to that of Wordle however, it offered four words that had to be solved in nine guesses. Each guess applies to all four words. The boxes change colour to tell the user which guesses are correct.

Wordle started a trend where users would post screenshots of their answers and scores.
Quordle, along with other such apps, tried to cash in on its success. It was able to gain 1 million players on the platform.

After the acquisition, the app now redirects users from its platform to Merriam-Webster.
