Pakistan hosts raw talent in form of its athletes. We have the honor of hosting Arshad Nadeem and Babar Azam. The number of amazing athletes doesn’t just end along the regular line of sports. We have some of the legends winning never-won-before medals in Para-Olympics. Haider Ali is one of the examples who won a gold medal in September 2021, becoming the first Pakistani to win such a medal. Only recently, a new athlete has made it to the headlines of newspapers by creating history. Pakistan’s Tanveer Ahmad’s name is now the talk of the hour, as this athlete has recently won the first-ever silver medal at the World Archery Para Championships 2022 that was held at Dubai Club for People of Determination.

The fact that Tanveer is visually impaired makes it an amazing feat, and also reveals the fullest potential of what Pakistani athletes can do. This is not the first time Tanveer has taken part in athletics. Tanveer has also been playing in the blind cricket team for 16 years. He made a shift to archery later on.

While speaking to the Asian Paralympic Committee Website, Tanveer expressed his joy for the accomplishment. He said, “It’s awesome. We have come this far, and I want to make the most of this opportunity. The journey has begun and there’s a long way to go.”

Tanveer dedicated this victory to his family who always stayed by his side and his esteemed coach Muhammad Ijaz who the player claims have been his biggest support and guide.

Commenting on how his life changed after archery, Tanveer said, “Our life took a new turn. When I started para archery in 2017, playing at the world championships was my greatest dream but now I hope it will be included in the Paralympics.”

Tanveer further explained that at the start, they had to do a lot of work from setup to training. Now at times, they get small funds from various foundations.

Tanveer mentioned that there are over 60 visually impaired archers in Pakistan. They have ground to train them along with training the able-bodied Pakistanis.

An achievement like this speaks volumes about the presence of amazing talent in Pakistan in the field of athletics. If given proper training, Pakistan can be a land where thousands of gold medalists can come every year.
