OPPO v Samsung – The Flip Phone Race

Samsung came up with the concept for their Fold Z series, in which an average-sized mobile phone could be flipped in half. The world was in awe but things are now changing with the new OPPO N phone.

Earlier today, OPPO announced their new mobile phone, which will give some severe competition to Samsung. We are now in a different phase of technology, and in this era, we talk about Folding smartphones. Samsung came up with the concept for their Fold Z series, in which an average-sized mobile phone could be flipped in half. The world was in awe but things are now changing with the new OPPO N phone.

OPPO revealed their new phone with a video of a phone that could also be used as a tablet. The design is simple with a simple outlook of an average phone, but the twist is that you can open the phone from one end, and it would turn into a mini-tablet. There are a lot of specifications that follow as well.

So, when we heard about the news, we decided to draw a comparison between the two. The OPPO follows a similar squarish folding OLED panel on the inside and a smaller screen on the outside that can be used when the phone is closed. The differences between the two phones are the sizes of the outer screens. The OPPO phone has a 120Hz – 7.1 inches diagonal inner display and has a slightly landscape 9:8.4 aspect ratio. And unlike the Z Fold display, which is taller when unfolded. There are dual stereo speakers located at the bottom of the phone, too, which further improves the experience of videos.

The outer screen is much more like a regular smartphone than the Z Fold. At 5.49 inches with an aspect ratio of 2:1, it’s actually very usable — if it weren’t for the folded device being twice as thick as a regular phone, it’d feel like the compact Android flagship that no one else is making.

But with all of this, there are two questions that come to mind.

One: Are these flip phones handy?

Two: Can people make do with the extra thick exterior?
