Malala Yousafzai, the executive producer of the movie, congratulated Sadiq and expressed her happiness that Joyland had been chosen.
On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled its shortlists for the 10 Oscar categories that will be presented in 2023. These categories include documentary and international features, as well as a documentary short subject, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, animated short, live-action short, sound, and visual effects.
Last Film Show, India’s international entry, also made the cut, and RRR, another Indian film, made the shortlist for its well-known single Naatu Naatu.
Yousafzai called Sadiq and told him, “I am so, so pleased for you and your whole team. “Behind the screen was everyone who appeared on the screen. You guys did such an amazing job! Being a part of this endeavour is a great honour for me. For all of the artists and for Pakistan, this is such an incredible time!” Added she, The team must be aware of everyone’s admiration for them.
In response, Sadiq said, “I appreciate your efforts and the significant part you played. It also fills me with great pride. We work well together.”
In a previous interview, the writer and director of joyland had remarked, “I am humbled, happy, and enthusiastic about this enormous honour to represent Pakistan at the Oscars with a film that I honestly believe is an honest and compassionate depiction of who we are as people. The happiness and anguish of these folks should encourage empathy in viewers both in Pakistan and beyond. We will be in need of a lot of duas and well wishes from our folks in the upcoming months.
“We always lament how Pakistani art has remained severely underrepresented in the globe, despite the existence of many excellent artists in many genres,” the director continued. However, this year has already been unique.

The complete and final list of Oscar nominees will be announced on January 24, 2023, with the presentation show for the 95th Academy Awards scheduled to take place on March 12, 2023.
