Barbie suffered a significant setback when the 2024 BAFTA nominations were revealed.

The biggest blockbuster of 2023 was not nominated for Best Picture at the British Academy Film Awards’ announcement of categories on Thursday.

In addition to Martin Scorsese for Killers of the Flower Moon, Greta Gerwig was excluded from consideration for Best Director.

Despite being highly praised by reviewers and fans alike, the billion-dollar club film only received five nominations for the forthcoming awards presentation.

But Margot Robbie is one of the film’s five candidates for Best Leading Actress, while Ryan Gosling is up for Best Supporting Actor.

Oppenheimer took home five Oscars, including Best Picture: Drama, at the Golden Globes earlier this month, but Barbie brought home a Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award.

In July 2023, Christopher Nolan’s historical biopic became part of the Barbenheimer craze and was nominated for 13 awards, including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film, and Best Director.

In addition, Cillian Murphy’s portrayal of Robert J. Oppenheimer has earned him a first-ever BAFTA nomination.
