It’s time to take a trip down memory lane as Ali Zafar’s musical career turns 20 this year! The most well-known song from his debut album, Chal Dil Mere, was made available in a lo-fi version by the singer-actor. A line describing the most crucial lesson he learned throughout these years has also been added to the song by Zafar.

On Sunday, Zafar shared his cover of the song that was first released in 1998 on social media. The actor from the song’s music video was seen browsing through all of his work on a screen with an AI-generated avatar.

“This was the first time that I didn’t feel like celebrating my birthday due to the circumstances in the country so, I am sorry I couldn’t respond. Too much to say, but words can never express the depths of a heart that weeps,” he wrote, adding that he channelled his “pain” through a rendition of Chal Dil Mere — a song close to his heart.

“This year marks 20 years of my musical journey, so I’ve decided to share some precious moments from my professional and personal life in this new rendition of my song Chal Dil Mere released in 2003 on my first album Huqa Pani,” he added.

A montage of films and images featuring his family, his Bollywood co-stars, clips from interviews, scenes from sets, and, of course, his concerts and all of his fans were used in the music video. Zafar added “a verse on smoking up and drinking down” towards the song’s conclusion as a surprise for the listeners.

Concluding his post, the Jhoom singer quoted Pablo Picasso and wrote, “‘The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.’”
