Guru, an Express Entertainment television series that would keep viewers glued to the screen, will centre on an intersex man who is the main character both at work and at home.

Ali Rehman Khan is willing to step beyond of his comfort zone and portray a “intersex” character on television, entering the ranks of Lollywood’s top actors and projects. With Khan playing the lead in the drama Guru, director Bilawal Hussain Abbasi is continuing the tradition started by Saim Sadiq’s Joyland and Muneeb Butt’s Sar-e-Rah.

Guru, an Express Entertainment television series that would keep viewers glued to the screen, will centre on an intersex man who is the main character both at work and at home.

On Saturday, the channel’s official Instagram account aired a trailer for the new drama series, highlighting Khan’s hard character as an intersex person who dances at events for money. The camera cuts from the hilarious escapades at the wedding reception to the character’s terrible reality, illustrating the contrast in their path. A newborn infant then enters the picture while Khan’s new persona continues to gaze through children’s toys in the teaser.

The intense teaser elicits a range of feelings, and the tense music just heightens the intrigue. Drug misuse, discrimination, and social hierarchy were also alluded at in the earlier teases.

Shazia Wajahat, one of the producers of Guru, praised Khan’s sheer talent for taking on a “challenging” role. “Super proud of my friend Ali Rehman Khan for getting out of his comfort zone and taking on this challenging role. Thank you for breaking barriers with a whole new look, that many would think twice of doing,” Wajahat wrote.

Anticipating the project by calling it a “riveting story about an intersex,” the producer couldn’t wait for the audience to watch.
