Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates President who modernized several policies in the country, dies at 73. The Ministry of Presidential Affairs announced an official mourning and flags to be flown for the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for a period of 40 days. Several work ministries, departments, federal and local institutions were also closed for 3 days.
Due to this The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards have also been postponed which were to be held in Abu Dhabi. The official Twitter handle of IIFA also mourned the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates. The entire UAE is under mourning period.

Condolences started pouring in from Arab leaders including Bahrain’s king, Egypt’s president and Iraq’s prime minister. The Duke of Cambridge travelled to the United Arab Emirates to deliver condolences on behalf of the Queen and the Royal family.
French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were the first European leaders to travel to the UAE capital since Sheikh Khalifa’s death. US Vice President Kamala Harris also paid her condolences by travelling to the UAE.
Under the constitution, vice-president and Premier Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, would act as president until the federal council which groups the rulers of the seven emirates meets within 30 days to elect a new president.
