Shaheen Shah Afridi, the captain of the Lahore Qalandars, has been in the spotlight since since his team’s triumph in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight yesterday (Saturday).
Fans were distracted by a photo of Shaheen and his wife, Ansha Afridi, when they were still reeling from the thrilling final between the Qalandars and Multan Sultans.
In the Gaddafi Stadium, where the Qalandars became the first team to win back-to-back PSL championships, both the husband and wife can be seen taking pictures with the PSL 8 trophy.
Fans believed that Ansha’s presence during the final match was the reason Shaheen was playing so well, however other online users said that the images resonating on social media were really of Ansha’s older sister Aqsa Afridi.
Because of their similar facial characteristics, many mistakenly identified Aqsa as Ansha when the former’s image from the stadium went viral on Twitter and showed her supporting Shaheen after he scored a number of bounds.
After two years of engagement, the famous pacer Shaheen married Ansha on February 3 at a nearby mosque in Karachi.
A run out had to be made at the bowler’s end because Multan’s Khushdil Shah attempted to score a third run to force a super over the day before. Khushdil Shah had taken 4-51 after hitting a quick 44 not out during the final.
Before a crowded 25,000-person Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the Qalandars had scored 200-6 in their 20 overs, while the Sultans had concluded on 199-8.
In the final from the previous year, the Qalandars had also beaten the Sultans.
The Sultans sprinted to 101-1 in only 10 overs as Shaheen let up 34 runs in his first two overs.
