Metaβs New Safety Measures β Rethinking The Boundaries In Cyberspace
Personal Data Protection
Pakistanβs Federal Government is moving in the direction to create a secure space for all, where no one has to worry about their personal data getting compromised. Although we have many laws and bills that protect the citizens against personal data theft. Even then many crimes have been reported when someoneβs information has been illegally used. To strengthen the process of data protection the Federal Government has proposed the National Commission for Data Protection (NCPDP) and Personal Data Protection Fund which will be incorporated under Personal Data Protection Bill.
National Commission for Data Protection (NCPDP)
NCPDP, will be formed to overlook and take necessary measures to protect the data. The commission will be tasked with likes protecting personal data and the subjects of the data, preventing misuse of personal data, spreading data protection awareness, etc. Along with this, the commission will also be registering complaints. Training and awareness will also be carried out. Not only this the transferences of cross-border data will also be monitored. The commission will maintain strict vigilance on all the data in order to strengthen the data protection system.
The commission will have the authority to enforce or employ measures necessary to enhance the efficiency of the system. Guiding and advising the federal government or any other government body on the subject will also be the commissionβs responsibility.
A five-member committee will be formed to head the commission. The commission will be appointed for a four-year term. This five-person led commission will include a data protection expert, an accounting expert, a civil society representative, an expert of strategic interest, and a legal expert.
Personal Data Protection Fund
Along with the National Commission for Data Protection (NCPDP), another body will be created to manage the expenses of the (NCPDP). The body would be called Personal Data Protection Fund. The federal government will be responsible for funding the commission. Moreover, the commission with federal governments will be allowed to use grants, loans, and foreign aid.
This proposal is yet to be approved. We hope the practical implementation of this proposal is as promising as it is on paper.
