Lionel Messi of Argentina won the Laureus Award for the best male athlete of 2022 on Monday, beating out Rafa Nadal, Kylian Mbappe, and Steph Curry. His work with the Argentina national team, which he led to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, helped him win the award.

Messi, who is 35 years old, has already won a Laureus, which is like a sports Oscar, in 2020. He shared that award with British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

The guy from Rosario, who will take over for Max Verstappen of the Netherlands, and his wife, Antonella, went to the event at the Pavillon Vendome in Paris.

Messi gets the award right after he started training again with his club, Paris Saint-Germain. He had been out for a week because he missed a training session on May 1 when he went to Saudi Arabia for a press event. Messi has made history, the planners said. Since the Laureus Awards started in 2000, this is the first time an athlete has won twice (individually and as a team).

In 2022, Argentina beat Real Madrid, the La Liga champions of Spain and Champions League winners for the 14th time, and the Golden State Warriors, the NBA champions for the fourth time in the last eight years. Lionel Messi has been considered the best athlete for 2022 which is a great achievement.
