Maulana Tariq Jamil’s son commits ‘suicide’

The son of famous religious teacher Maulana Tariq Jamil killed himself at home in Talamba, Punjab, where they were born and raised. This was confirmed by the police after an initial investigation on Sunday.

Captain (retd) Sohail Chaudhry, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) for Multan, said, “The DPO [district police officer] has seen a CCTV footage that shows Asim Jamil committing suicide.”

He thought that Asim had killed himself by shooting himself in the chest. The police officer also said that the video would be sent for forensic analysis.

A police officer named RPO Chaudhry also said that Asim was a mental patient who had been taking medicine for a long time. The RPO said he killed himself with a 30-bore gun and added, “Asim asked his housekeeper, Imran, to bring the pistol.”

The police officer described the terrible events and said that Asim’s housekeeper told him not to point the gun at his chest when he did so.

“He married a girl he chose, but they later split up,” the RPO said.

Earlier, the famous religious teacher told people on X (which used to be called Twitter) that his son had died: “My son Asim Jamil passed away in Tulamba [Khanewal, Punjab] today.”

Chendhry had said before, “Asim died of a bullet wound.” In answer to a question, the police officer said that they had arrived at the scene of the crime and were gathering information about it.
The RPO also said that Asim was hit in the chest with a bullet.

In the meantime, Dr. Usman Anwar, the Inspector General of Police for Punjab, has asked the Multan RPO to give him a full report on this.
