After appearing in her final drama serial, Hum Kahan Ke Sachay Thay, in 2021, Mahira Khan, who is debatably the most well-known face in the Pakistani entertainment industry, hasn’t been seen on television for more than three years. The award-winning actress is reportedly making a return to television with the Express Entertainment series Razia, which appears to highlight the grim realities of women in Pakistan.
Razia appears to be setting the way for a time of women’s rights. In a time when the idea of female tyranny dominates the local screen, even though the trailer itself does not tell much about what the series will cover. Khan, who plays the title part, portrays a woman who raises issues about the struggles that women face in this nation.
Razia seems to be an attempt to launch a wave of feminist conversation, touching on topics including harassment, child marriage, honour killing, and domestic abuse.
The Superstar actor delivers a monologue in the teaser, urging onlookers to listen. The figure is shown as an outspoken, what some may say “bold,” woman who tells her audience that her story does not use the usual plot devices that stories frequently employ to justify injustice.
She draws attention to the all-too-common themes of cruel in-laws, a desire for upper-class romances, and the ability to forgive injustice in the name of love—themes that viewers frequently see in locally produced entertainment.
Other well-known figures included in the miniseries include Momal Shaikh, Mohib Mirza, Shahzad Mallick, and Parveen Akhbar. It is directed, written, and produced by Hina Aman.
