Captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year Awarded to Babar Azam

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s standout batsman, has been selected captain of the ICC ODI Team of 2022.

Babar Azam, Pakistan’s standout batsman, has been selected captain of the ICC ODI Team of 2022. The running machine Babar concluded 2022 with 679 runs at an astounding 84.87 average.

“The ICC Team of the Year recognizes 11 remarkable performers who have amazed one and all – whether it with the bat, the ball, or their overall achievements in a calendar year,” cricket’s governing body stated in a media statement.

The squad also included two Australians, Travis Head and Adam Zampa, two West Indians, Shai Hope, and Alzarri Joseph, two Indians, Shreyas Iyer, and Mohammed Siraj, two New Zealanders, Tom Latham, and Trent Boult, and one player each from Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, Mehidy Hasan Mirza and Sikandar Raza.

“Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has shown his skill in the 50-over format, demonstrating why he has reigned supreme at the top of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings since July 2021.” Read the ICC statement.

“It was a memorable year for Babar as captain of the Pakistan ODI team, winning three series out of three. Pakistan was unstoppable in the ODI format, losing just one match (against Australia) out of nine. His leadership skills mean he leads the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2022.”
