Nothing is official yet, but fans are already split between excitement and disbelief.
Here is everything we know so far about Wasim Akram’s rumoured drama, who else might join the cast, and why this cricket-meets-showbiz crossover has everyone talking.

Wasim Akram and Mahnoor Baloch: An Unexpected On-Screen Pair
Mahnoor Baloch is one of Pakistan’s most respected television actresses, known for her graceful screen presence and decades-long career. Pairing her with a cricket legend making his first drama appearance is the kind of casting that guarantees curiosity. If it goes ahead, it could be one of the most-watched drama launches of the season simply because of the names attached.
Is This Wasim Akram’s First Acting Role?
Not quite. Wasim Akram already tested the waters of acting in the 2023 Pakistani film Money Back Guarantee, where he appeared alongside his wife Shaniera Akram. He has also been a familiar face in commercials and entertainment shows for years. However, a television drama would be a completely new format for him, and a much bigger commitment than a film cameo.
How Fans and Celebrities Reacted
Actress Javeria Abbasi welcomed the news, while social media reaction has been mixed. Some fans can’t wait to see the former captain on screen, while others have questioned whether a cricketer belongs in a lead drama role when so many trained actors are waiting for opportunities.
Love it or not, one thing is clear: the idea of the Sultan of Swing delivering dramatic dialogues instead of yorkers has people hooked.
From the Cricket Field to the Small Screen
Wasim Akram’s cricket record needs no introduction. He played 104 Tests and 356 ODIs, took 916 international wickets across both formats, and was a key part of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team. Since retiring in 2003, he has built a second career as a commentator, analyst and media personality.
He’s not the only cricketer to be pulled toward showbiz. Shahid Afridi has also spoken about the film offers he received, which you can read about in Shahid Afridi Revealed: Why He Didn’t Accept Film Offers.
Will Mahira Khan Join the Cast?
Reports suggest Mahira Khan could be approached for a special appearance, but there is no confirmation. If she does come on board, the drama would bring together a cricket icon and one of Pakistan’s biggest stars. Catch up on Mahira’s latest big-screen outing in our Neelofar review.
