Pakistan’s Caretaker Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Dr Umar Saif, announced that 5G services will be launched in July 2024, and 300 MHz spectrum will be auctioned. Dr Saif also shared that the government is addressing the issues faced by telecommunication companies about 5G.
To expand Pakistan’s IT exports, the government has signed memorandums of understanding with three Qatari companies. Dr Saif expressed hope that these agreements will promote growth in IT exports to the Middle East.
During a recent ceremony hosted by the World Bank Group, Dr Saif stressed the importance of women’s participation in decision-making roles, and providing them with equal opportunities in business. He highlighted various schemes launched by the government to support women in entrepreneurship.
The ceremony marked the conclusion of the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (WeFi) in Pakistan. The initiative aimed to support women entrepreneurs and drive economic growth and gender equality. The program worked with 30 incubators and accelerators, 350 women-led startups, and trained 150+ women founders and 30+ entrepreneurship support organizations across Pakistan and 10 other countries in the MENA region. The program resulted in an impressive $5.6 million investment in 24 startups.
The event included panel discussions on future initiatives to support women entrepreneurs in Pakistan and highlighted success stories of women entrepreneurs. Dr Saif acknowledged the critical role of the government in women’s entrepreneurship and access to finance, and initiatives like WeFi in promoting gender equality and economic growth.
