Imran Khan, a former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was detained while appearing in court in the nation’s capital Islamabad on corruption-related charges.

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan has been arrested while appearing in court in the nation’s capital Islamabad on corruption-related charges.

The news was verified by Musarrat Jamshed Cheema, a representative of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI).

She stated, “He went for his biometrics process from where he was taken by the rangers.”

According to Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, a senior police officer in Islamabad, Khan was detained in connection with a case involving the Al-Qadir Trust.

He said that on May 1 the National Accountability (NAB) had issued an arrest warrant for Khan in connection with the matter.

Fawad Chaudhry of Khan’s PTI party tweeted that the Pakistan Rangers paramilitary had “occupied” the Islamabad High Court compound and that attorneys inside were “being tortured.”

Khan was accompanied to a rangers vehicle and driven to an unidentified location, as shown in video published by local media.

According to reports, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has asked government representatives to appear before the court over Khan’s detention.

Khan, 70, lost a vote of confidence in parliament and was ousted from office in April of last year. Since then, he has been advocating for early national elections, which are scheduled for this October.
