For the past couple of years, the telecom industry has tried to upgrade to 5G. There have been disagreements with the government regarding acquiring the licenses. The Ministry of Information and Telecommunication is trying to get everyone on board and plans to launch 5G in 3 cities by 2023.
Mobile Users in Pakistan are 175.62 million, and it continues to grow. In 2021, there were 123 million and the market penetration was at 51%. In 2019, the number of 4G users was 50%. It took 7 years to have an average of 80% for 4G and 10 years for 3G.
The 4G has been relatively slower than the rest of the world. We are still 3-4 years behind the world. It is good news that growth will increase. According to the Global System of Mobile Communications, 50 % of Pakistan will be using 4G by the end of 2022. But wait! Don’t get excited! The statistics say that only 4% of the population will have access to 5G, whereas 65% will still be using 4G.

According to the official document released by the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication, 5G will start in 2023 but with limited access. Â It will take time as people are still upgrading to 4G. It is now evident that developing countries have to upgrade their telecommunication technology.
