The 21st century is the century of gender equality. We are witnessing many women coming forth and making a mark in all walks of life. Even in fields like police which is highly dominated and associated with men. But against all the odds, women in Pakistan are taking charge in the police sector. Just like Samina Zafar who is the first women police officer to lead the region of Galiyat that too in winters.
Samina Zafar hailing from the district of Haripur joined the police service in 1996. She has been serving the country for 26 years. Samina also served at the DSP Administration Police Training School Mansehra. She has also been a part of many perilous and complicated cases. These experiences in different areas have helped her adopt skills that are necessary for the police force.
Samina Zafar brimming with confidence is now leading the region of Galiyat in Abbottabad making her the first women police officer to lead Galiyat in winters. During an interview, Samina Zafar told the reason behind joining the police force. She said “I believe that a woman is completely secure in uniform. When a woman comes in uniform one gets a different kind of feeling. My parents always taught me the lesson of fighting fears to muster the courage for my next challenges. This was the reason that I decided to join the police force.” Samina while talking about her work said: “I try my best to ensure that everyone especially females who come to us leaves feeling like they have been served.”
It’s not the first time, Samina Zafar made it to the headlines. Back in 2019, her videos of saving an injured person surfaced on social media. During the violence that took place in Havellian that day, when people were busy saving their lives, Samina Zafar was doing her duty by protecting the citizens and moving them to a safe place. While talking about the incident, Samina said “I was doing my duty and busy rescuing injured persons when someone filmed me and made me famous like pawri girl.”
Because of her brave and courageous nature and keenness to fulfill her responsibilities, Samina was given the authority of traffic management of Galiyat during the winter season. Since the day she assumed the charge hardly any accident has been reported. Even during the snowstorm that occurred in January, no casualty was reported.
There must be many women in Pakistan who are as courageous as Samina Zafar but are not given the right opportunity. But sometimes you have to clear the ways for yourself just like Samina. We are proud of Samina Zafar and all the women like her, who are contributing their efforts and time to make society, country, and the world a better place to live.
