Guidelines For Women and Vulnerable Users
Meta has introduced two safety guidelines for women and vulnerable users of social media. Meta’s new safety measures are aimed at creating safe cyberspace for all users. Most importantly, the safety guide is now available in Urdu too. This is to facilitate the Pakistani women to fight online harassment or sort of restraint they are facing online via WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Moreover, Meta is equipping the users with tools that would enable them to stand for themselves, raise voices against what is wrong, and avoid the horrors of the modern digital world.
The safety guidelines introduced are
- Online Safety Guide: This feature is available at the Meta’s Safety Centre which provides solutions to online criminal activities, frauds, scams, and harassment.
- StopNCII: It is known to restrict non-consensual intimate images. This will enable the victim to report any related incident and Meta will instantly block the spread of the intimate content.
All these guidelines are available in Urdu also the StopNCII portal is also translated in Urdu to create digital literacy among all the users. Moreover, “Safety@Facebook,” Meta’s safety hub is also present in Urdu which provides the necessary information to make the online experience safer.
Guidelines For Children
Meta has been long criticized for being not able to monitor teen activities on Instagram. However, the company has come up with a plan that would allow the parents to peak into the Instagram accounts of their children. This will help them to take necessary actions to keep their children safe from the dark side of social media. This feature is known as the ‘Family Center’ and will give the parents the authority to keep an eye on certain Insta activities of their children.
These activities include:
- App usage time
- The accounts their kids have followed.
- Accounts that are following their kid’s account.
- The accounts they have reported.
This feature has been introduced on Instagram. Soon Facebook will also get a similar feature to regulate teens’ activities on the app.
Meta’s new safety measures are surely going to define the limitations in cyberspace. Also, it will bring down the complaints regarding online harassment, violence, and other negative usages.
