The online media pioneer, whose name has become inseparable from the organization, was replaced by Twitter’s technology chief, Parag Agrawal. “I’ve decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I’m deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It’s his time to lead,” Said Twitter’s ex-CEO Jack Dorsey before stepping down.
Over the previous year, Twitter has battled to end years long analysis that it has been delayed to present new elements for its 211 million daily users and was losing ground to web-based media rivals like Instagram and TikTok. Undoubtedly, competition between social media applications has increased immensely over the past few years.
It has become vital for every platform to introduce new and exciting features for their users in order to keep up to the pace of advancements. For Twitter, the inability to do so have caused a lot of damage as its shares dropped significantly in the recent months. These reasons compelled Dorcey to step down from his unusual arrangement of withholding the title of CEO for two public companies.
Jack Dorcey handed over the reins of Twitter to Parag Agarwal who was the company’s technology chief and has recently been working on the cryptocurrencies and block chain technologies. He has been able to incorporate ideas and help the company pursue its long-term ambition to rebuild how social media companies operate.
Agrawal initiated the work to propel Twitter’s internal technology back in 2018 with an end goal to help accelerate the speed of feature development. Agarwal said in an interview “When we hear people say that Twitter is slow at shipping, that hurts, and that is something we use as motivation.”
Technological advancements are the new rage and the pace at which they are drastically changing is hard to track. For any social media app that seeks success, tracking advancements and developments is highly important. Constant introduction of new features, graphics and opportunities of interaction has to be a salient feature for any social media application.
Twitter’s decision to promote a technological officer to CEO can be a wise move as Agarwal is aware of the changing market and requirements of the users.
Parag Agrawal may not be the most public face for running Twitter, however his long stretches of involvement in the organization, profound involvement in modernizing Twitter’s makes him a sensible choice for CEO.
We wish Mr. Agarwal the best of luck and hope that our twitter followers also grow with his growth! (hehe)
