Doodh aik aisi cheez hai jo pasand tou kisi ko nahien hoti magar zarurat hoti hai sab ki. Bachpan mein amma zabardasti pilati thien aur kisi ka dil nahien karta tha but jaisay jaisay baray hotay hain kuch ho jata hai. Phir insaan ki zaurat ban jati hai – gyming tou karni hoti hai. But aaj kal wo bhi mushkil ho gaya hai kyun kay mehgai hi itni ho gai hai.
Doodh ki qeemat asmaan ko chu rahi hai. Not literally because it is impossible to touch the sky no matter what our insane naïve young self wants us to believe. However, the prices are sky-high, and the general consensus believes that the quality is also compromised because of the concentration of water that is mixed in milk. Only a true milkman can tell us if this is true or not and they will never tell us. So, we must always live in this confusion of what is true and what is not true.
However, recently Sindh High Court (SHC) has sent a notice to the Karachi district administration to fix the prices of milk and other such foods, to ensure that people are not robbed of these basic necessities. The notice was sent to the Karachi commissioner, law secretary, director-general of the Bureau of Supply and Prices, and other provincial authorities to submit their response to the petition by April 13.
In the petition, it was mentioned that the Commissioner of Karachi and the assistant commissioner, now have the power to fix the prices of milk and other such food to make sure that the people – the vendors are abiding by the law.
He said, ‘’The Sindh government earmarks an annual budget of Rs650 million for as many as 1,163 employees of the Bureau of Supply and Prices. The Karachi commissioner was given powers to fix milk prices and conduct raids 12 years back and the department charged with this duty was rendered non-functional through a notification.”
This just means that the authorities have the power to make sure that basic food like these is not being sold at an unreasonably high price. Magar eham sawal yeh hai kay kya doodh ab humain sastay damon mein milay ga? Kya ab hum sakoon sei gym ja saktay hain, in the knowledge kay jab hum ghar wapis aien tou we can have that protein shakes and all those other things we need at a reasonable price, and will not have to sell our kidneys to abide by society’s need to look fit and perfect on the outside, not paying any attention to the hollowness that one feels on the inside? Woah – that went dark, very quickly.
