Barzakh is the name of the upcoming Zee5 series that will reunite Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed 10 years after their successful show Zindagi Gulzar Hai first aired. The Series Mania Festival, one of France’s most prestigious film festivals, has chosen to screen the series internationally.
This year’s festival, which will take place in France from 17th March to 24th, will feature only one film from South Asia, and that will be Barzakh. The web series is nominated for several awards, including Best Series, Best Director, Best Actor (female), and Best Actor (male), as well as the Student Jury award and the Audience award, and will be shown as part of the International Panorama lineup, a 12-title competitive section.
Fawad Khan will play a single parent who is charming but burdened by guilt over his children. Sanam Saeed is the other main character. Barzakh, which marks the on-screen pair’s eagerly awaited reunion after 10 years, is the only South Asian selection at the festival, which will take place in Lille.
Fawad Khan said, “I felt like I had made a second family on set, second only to Kapoor & Sons, I told the cast and crew on my last day. To put it simply, I could feel the good vibes that were channeled into its creation. I adore each one of them. I care deeply about the success of this endeavor.”
Whereas Sanam Saeed elaborated, “When I found out that one of my favorite filmmakers, Asim Abbasi, would be working with me on Zindagi, I was ecstatic. The cast of this new project was carefully selected, and their performances are breathtaking. I’m dying for everyone to see the wonders that have been wrought in this idyllic no-man’s-land.”
The web series will be screened as part of the International Panorama line-up, a 12-title competitive section, and is also nominated in several categories such as Best Series, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor as well as the Student Jury award and the Audience award.
