The famous social media platform has expanded its creator subscription program, and introduced new ways of for users to generate income through the platform. IG is now allowing the platforms to lock even more of their content behind paywell. IG has achieved this by upgrading its subscription program. It is important to note that this feature was already available before. Instagram subscription’s program was available to the content creators before. It only applied to lives, badges and stories. Creators could set a monthly subscription cost of maximum 100 USD. Followers could sign up and subscribe using a button that appeared on their profile.
However, now the subscription program has received an upgrade. It now extends to posts, reels, chats, and a special exclusive homepage. The CEO of Instagram, Adam Mosseri explained this expansion of subscription program on a video.

According to Adam, the subscriptions are a potential way for content creators to earn income. For the fans, the subscriptions allow them to enjoy the content from their favorite content creators. Ever since the feature was introduced, thousands of content creators have leveraged this option to upgrade their accounts, and secure a sustainable income.
To distinguish the normal posts from the subscribed ones, the special posts will show a purple badge in the corner. Only subscribers can view such posts. That subscriber option also extends to the chat options. Content creators can create group DMs of 30 subscribers at a time. Also for the subscribers, there is an option to head to a separate homepage from the creator’s feed.
