Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the names of former Pakistan test cricketers as consultants of chief selector Wahab Riaz. Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt, and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are the three consultants in the selection panel of the Pakistan Cricket team.
The three former cricketers will take the responsibilities of a consultant member with immediate effect. The first major and important assignment for the selection committee is to select a squad for five-match T20 series against New Zealand starting from January 12th, 2024, following the test series against Australia.
The three former cricketers are expected to be given more responsibilities by PCB. When not busy with selection assignments the former cricketers may arrange and involve in skill enhancement camps for young and upcoming cricketers.
Member of the selection committee Kamran Akmal had a cricketing career of 15 years. In his career the wicketkeeper-batsman scored nearly 7,000 runs across all formats and dismissed 453 batters from behind the stumps. Kamran Akmal was an integral part of the team which won the ICC T20 cricket World Cup in 2009 in Lords.
Rao Iftikhar Anjum played a Test match, two T20 internationals and. 62 ODIs from 2004 to 2010. He took 78 international wickets throughout his career in all formats. He also was part of the team that lifted the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup for Pakistan.
Former Test captain Salman Butt represented Pakistan in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs and 24 T20Is. He made 5,209 runs spanning the three formats with 11 international centuries. He was in the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2009.
After the Pakistan team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of ICC Cricket World in India last month, major changes inthe management of the cricket team are witnessed. The changes are expected to bring good results for the green shirts. The main goal of the team would be to win the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup in the next year.
