When it comes to buying or selling an asset or getting information regarding the ownership of some property or basically anything, Pakistanis have to go through long paperwork just to know Asad is the sole owner of 272.25 square feet of land that he bought a few months ago dah!!! For just this piece of information, you’ll have to visit many government officials, and in the worst-case scenario, you might not even get the papers just because they got lost during independence (yes, the logic here remains uncontended). We have been putting up with this long-time-taking procedure for years and without giving it much thought, were going to continue with it. However, the government took notice of this orthodox information-saving system. The government of Pakistan has introduced the e-filing system.

E-Filing System
E-filing system means less paperwork. All your information will be stored on systems. Now if you go to a government and ask for certain information, believe us you wouldn’t have to wait for days for the official to find the required file. All the files will be one touch away. Finally! Pakistan is undergoing digitization. Biding farwell to the inefficient slow procedures and replacing them with new tech-savvy ones.
Almost 12 ministries out of 40 have already fully implemented the e-filling system. The remaining have completed 75% of the transition. The e-office is being implemented in the federal government. The National Information Technology Board (NITB), the body responsible for implementing the e-office system across the federal government has made a major breakthrough. The e-office system not only is efficient but is also less costly. It saves millions of rupees just by eliminating the paper culture.
It is said that “The robust e-cabinet portal is yet another success under the current leadership of Ministry of IT and Telecom and NITB which transformed paper-based cabinet meeting procedures to a completely paperless environment through a secure digital system”.
The governments of Sindh and Balochistan have also turned to NITB for the implementation of the same cabinet solution in their respective jurisdictions.
In the second phase, the NITB aims at introducing the e-office at the departmental level.
Moreover, NITB in tandem with the Board of Investment (BOI) has established a state-of-art digital portal for special economic zones. The inauguration will soon take place.
Digitization at the governmental level demonstrates the gradual turn towards modernization. Nevertheless, like paperwork has some cons, e-filing is also exposed to cyber threats. The authorities need to be watchful of such risks. A system should be put in place that can tackle all the problems without the loss of data.
