This is the first edition of QS Sustainability Rankings. The list has ranked universities on their ability to tackle environmental, social, and governance challenges. 13 Pakistani universities were included in the recently released QS World University Rankings for 2023, with the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad ranking first among 1,500 universities worldwide. NUST Islamabad is ranked 334th, Quaid-i-Azam University is ranked 363rd, and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) is ranked 390th. Only three Pakistani universities made the top 500 QS World University Rankings.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Cambridge, and Stanford University have claimed the top 3 spots for 2023.
