Despite being apart for over three years, the Bad Boys have reunited for a fourth ‘Bad Boys’.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence released a reunion video on social media on January 31st, 2023, with the remark, “IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME!” to confirm that production on their new film has begun.
Smith said in the video that he was on his way to Lawrence’s house to make a major news. Comedian 57 questioned co-star Will, “It’s about that time?” after opening the door, to which Will responded, “It’s official ya’ll!” There can be no doubt: Bad Boys forever and always, babe.
By the conclusion of the clip, Martin and Will joke that they should have known better than to title the previous picture Bad Boys For Life since it was just the third film in the series. Will then put up four fingers and stated, “We shouldn’t have named it that, however. And then she cried, “But this is Bad Boys 4!” (The e was the 3, after all.) Yes, it’s official! When asked to elaborate, Martin said, “okay we did four… but it’s still Bad Boys For Life!”
Sony Pictures has confirmed to Variety that pre-production on the unnamed sequel has begun, with Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah set to return as directors working from a narrative by Chris Bremner.
In 2020’s Bad Boys for Life, the directors brought back Smith and Lawrence as Miami-Dade police officers Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, twenty-five years after the original Bad Boys film was released.
