The Untouchables: How Pakistan’s Elite Escape Justice Time and Again
Justice delayed is justice denied. Unfortunately, in Pakistan, this seems to be the norm when it comes to the nation’s elite. This privileged segment of society engages in all kinds of crimes, committing acts of cruelty and brutality, only to escape accountability. It’s a harsh and disturbing reality, one that has become all too familiar to everyone.
From the brutal murder of Noor Mukadam and the killing of Shahzeb Khan to the Karsaz incident, where a drunk woman caused fatalities due to overspeeding, these cases dominated both mainstream and digital media. The details were clear, and the culprits were arrested, yet over time, they all managed to evade true justice. None received the severe penalties they deserved.
These high-profile cases are just the tip of the iceberg. They represent the fraction of incidents that manage to make it to the media and gain public attention. Countless other cases never come to light, as victims’ families are either silenced or discouraged from pursuing justice due to fear or intimidation.
Situations like these not only normalize injustice but also create a constant sense of fear and insecurity among the public. People live with the worry that they, too, could fall victim to similar violence and be denied the justice they deserve. Such a reality highlights the failure of a country’s authorities, judiciary, and government, exposing their inability to protect their citizens and uphold justice.
A very crucial yet rarely discussed topic which needs immediate accountability and action to make it a resolved issue in the society.
