Six kids and two adults were in a cable car that was hanging over a deep valley in Pakistan on Tuesday.
Hours after they became trapped in a cable car hundreds of meters above a ravine in northwest Pakistan, all eight passengers were safely retrieved.
One youngster was rescued by a military helicopter in a risky and time-consuming operation, while the rest were found by ground personnel after nightfall.
Yesterday, a mysterious event happened in Peshawar in which around 8 people got stuck in a cable car. That cable hangs in the middle of a deep gorge surrounded by beautiful mountains. That is a place where cable cars are often used to connect villages and towns that are far apart.
The trapped people were helped to safety on a zip line, and a big group of people on top of the hillside cheered for them.
The incident occurred when one of the car’s wires broke as the group was driving to school. It was left hanging dangerously 274 meters (900 feet) above the ground in strong winds. Anwaar ul Haq Kakar, Pakistan’s acting prime minister, said he was happy and thanked everyone who helped save the hostages.
Pakistan’s army said that the task to save the hostages was “extremely hard and dangerous.”
The incident happened near the city of Battagram in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday around 7:00 local time (2:00 GMT). Six children between the ages of 10 and 16 and two adults were stuck.
One of the kids, a teenage boy, has a heart problem and was unconscious for several hours, an adult on board called Gulfaraz told local media.
A relief worker told Reuters news agency that “heat and fear” caused a child to pass out, but it was not clear if that was the same kid.
The car is a popular and cheap way to get across the Allai Valley. It cuts a two-hour road trip through mountains down to just four minutes. Dolly was making its fifth trip of the day when the rope snapped. Residents used sirens to tell officials about the problem, but it took at least four hours for the first rescue plane to get to the rural area.
Along the ravine, worried people, including family members of those who were stuck, quickly gathered to watch as military planes fought against the strong winds to lower troops to the stuck car.
Several early attempts to get food and water to them failed, but some food and water did get there.
